Since the first show held in 1999, Iceland Airwaves has become one of the premier showcases for new music - Icelandic and otherwise - in the world. That combined with three nights in the Netherland's rockin' capital of Amsterdam makes for an exciting and jam-packed adventure. YOU JUST RAN OUT OF REASONS TO STAY HOME!

A warm “Goeden Dag” welcome awaits in Holland, land of friendly people, tulips, cheese, winding canals and windmills. Amsterdam has something for everyone. Art lovers can see Rembrandt’s “Night Watch” at the Rijksmuseum or the enormous collection of Old Master’s at the Van Gogh Museum. History buffs can visit the Anne Frank house or fascinating diamond factories. Day or night, this fun city is always ready for a party.

Let the good times roll as we go on an optional biking tour through the Dutch countryside. Admire polders and little canals en route to the famous Zaanse Schans village, where original buildings vividly depict Dutch life in the 17th and 18th centuries. See the authentic houses, the historic shipyard, and the windmills. Visit a wooden shoemaker to watch his clog-making techniques too. Continue on to the world-famous fishing villages of Volendam and Marken, situated on the coast of the Ijselmeer. See wooden houses and locals wearing their colorful style of dress. On the way, stop at one of the few farms where cheese is still made in the traditional way.

Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik, is a great place to visit for cultural nourishment or pure relaxation in this clean, green city. Mt. Esja looms over modern architecture like the impressive City Hall. Hofdi House was used for the summit meeting of presidents Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev, that effectively marked the end of the Cold War. Outside the city are waterfalls, geysers and the world-famous Blue Lagoon geothermal springs. In this rugged lava landscape, lagoons and pools of mineral-rich hot water that is iridescent blue in color come from far beneath the earth and call for you to come play.

Iceland Airwaves takes place in Reykjavik's city center - clubs, bars and the Reykjavik Art Gallery all come alive. This is the perfect festival city, welcoming yet sophisticated. Some of the world’s most exciting artists come here to perform. During the whole festival - from afternoon into the night - parties, DJ & band gigs are everywhere playing cutting-edge music and partying into the wee hours… bring out your inner hipster.
